The holidays are my favorite time of year—filled with joy, family, and celebrations. But as a DUI attorney with over 30 years of experience, I also know it’s a season that comes with risks, especially on the roads. With so many drivers traveling to visit loved ones or attend holiday events, the chance of accidents and DUI charges increases. This holiday season, I want to share some advice to help you stay safe and avoid unnecessary trouble.
What to Expect on the Pennsylvania Turnpike This Holiday Season
The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission is forecasting heavy traffic—about 6 million vehicles—between now and New Year’s Eve. Good news: all road construction is suspended, so conditions should be smoother.
The busiest travel days are today, Dec. 22, Monday, Dec. 25, and Dec. 26-28. If you’re driving during these times, plan for delays and take extra precautions. And please, be mindful if you’re traveling along the New Stanton to Bedford stretch (milepost 75 to 126). This area can be particularly dangerous in bad weather.
The Police Are Out in Full Force
Law enforcement will be stepping up patrols to target impaired and distracted drivers. DUI checkpoints will be more frequent, and police are trained to spot even small signs of impairment.
If you’re stopped, it’s important to stay calm. You have rights—use them. Remember, you don’t have to answer incriminating questions without a DUI lawyer present. If you’re unsure of what to say or do, call me. That’s what I’m here for.
Stay Safe and Plan Ahead
If you’re planning to celebrate with a drink, be smart about it. Designate a sober driver or use a ride-sharing app. It’s simple, and it can save you from legal troubles—or worse.
For those driving long distances, check the weather before you leave, especially on the Turnpike. And no matter how hectic the holidays get, avoid distracted driving. Your texts can wait.
If the Unexpected Happens, I’m Here for You
Even with the best intentions, life doesn’t always go as planned. If you or someone you care about faces a DUI charge, don’t panic. I know how overwhelming it can be, especially during the holidays, and I’ll be there to guide you every step of the way.
I’ve spent decades helping clients through tough situations, and I’ll do everything I can to protect your rights and your future. If you need me, don’t hesitate to call. I’m just a phone call away, ready to help.
From my family to yours, I wish you a joyful and peaceful holiday season. Be safe, be mindful, and most importantly, make the most of your time with loved ones.
